It’s a nice feeling, even if not fully contextually based, to know that you can dominate a poker player. The same way that more experienced basketball players will know they can dominate the less fit, less poised other, certain players are meant to be your bait.

This doesn’t mean, however, that you should act so confident unto gloating, or even in acting as if their money is already yours. Even the player who comes prepared to lose has to have his money taken from him. Getting too confident that you will dominate as you should can lead to sloppy play. Stay focused on the prize, the sucker’s money, and keep your game and reads about your head. Play on a field with the other online poker players, because always, no matter, that’s where you are.

The riffle shuffling technique is the de facto technique used in casual home online poker games across the world. When you use the riffling shuffling technique you rapidly incorporate two piles of online poker cards by flipping them together using your thumb and index finger. Most people then bend the cards upward to make a half circle on the table, or a bridge. For the serious poker player, the traditional riffle shuffle technique has some problematic issues. The 2nd pile is your other 5-card-hand. It does not have to rank higher than your 3-card-hand.

Finally, you place your 3-card-hand at the bottom.

Poker players can run hot and cold. Sometimes the cards just seem to continually come your way and you win lots of pots. Then the cards go cold and dead, and even the few hands you play get beat. Every poker player experiences these ups and downs.

Raising from an early position is an extremely risky poker proposition-you don’t know how your opponents feel about their hands, so you won’t be able to gauge their actions and plan your strategy. Also, you never know which (if any) of your opponents behind you will reraise you and force you out of the hand.

A lot of poker online players are far too aggressive with their cards in the early position, raising too often when just calling the hand is a more appropriate action. Raising can be good from an early position, as it narrows the playing field, and can sometimes with the hand right away, but it’s only suitable under certain circumstances. Here are two main considerations:

Table Personality

Make sure that you’re at a passive or tight table before placing an early position raise, where it’s far more likely that online poker players will fold to an early position raise. Loose or aggressive tables are far less susceptible to raises, and a player is more likely to come back over the top with a reraise.

Your Table Image

Make sure that you’ve got the right table image to raise before the flop. If your opponents take you seriously, they will be far less likely to call your raise or reraise against you.

If you had a choice between being able to know your opponents’ cards in any given hand, or to know what was coming out on the flop, which would you choose? It may seem like an obvious answer, but the reasoning behind the two different options in a way can offer insight into certain methods of your play online poker, and might tell you something about the style of your poker game.

If you were able to see your opponents’ cards every time, you would never get bluffed again. You would also save money not bluffing when your poker opponents hands were huge, and you would know when you could win the pot by moving in no matter what you have. In this way, and in a wide variety of situations, it seems like the power to know your opponents’ cards would be significantly the victor. But what about when your opponents start to know that you are acting on thin air? When they start calling you with hands you imagined they could make fold? Also, in games where the action happens more early on in the hand, the skill becomes less valuable.

But in what way does know the flop change this? If you could know what was coming, you would be able to play pretty much ’sure thing’ poker: you could only play hands that flop miracles, and would save boatloads of money on not prospecting with hands that get nowhere. You’d also never kick yourself for not seeing the flop by getting raised out, because you would know you are going to make the nuts.

Obviously, either way would be nice to have, but depending on the situation, each has a different manner of application that could in different spots be applied with different textures.

There is a saying in poker; “If you can’t spot the donkey at the table, you’re it.” If you are one of those poker players who isn’t the donkey at the table you should be aware of which players are weaker and you should take advantage of them whenever you get the chance. Some players to watch for are “calling stations.” These players will rarely raise and will only call or fold. You can bully these players with raises when they seem weak, but beware, if they do decide to raise, they probably have a strong hand!

Another point to remember is not to call out these players, whether you are playing online poker or live. When a “donkey” beats you in a hand it can be very frustrating, but hold your tongue. If you decide to tell them about how bad they are, they may change their style or you may simply make the other players at the table aware of their weaknesses. It is always smarter to hold your tongue and hope that you will have another opportunity to exploit those weaknesses again. If you have valuable information about players at your table you obviously don’t want to share this with anyone else. Keep it to yourself and use it to your advantage as soon as you have the opportunity.
